Spirit Fire, in partnership with Fr. Ken Schmidt, MA, LPC, NCC, of Trauma Recovery Associates, and under the spiritual guidance and care of Most Rev. Edward S. Scharfenberger (Bishop of the Diocese of Albany NY) and Most Rev. Paul S. Loverde (Bishop Emeritus of Arlington VA) hosts confidential and private retreat for Church leaders and all ordained ministers to explore prayerfully ways to care for ordained men who have been abused.
These retreats are a blend of prayer and learning basic wellness issues faced by diocesan and religious priests and brothers who have suffered abuse or trauma, regardless of age (childhood or young adulthood) or source of trauma (sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress).
In keeping with best practices for recovery from post-traumatic stress and other difficulties stemming from trauma or abuse, Spirit Fire Founders and other clergy-survivors are present for the cohort to talk about the importance of peer support.
If you wish to attend one of these retreats to consider how your diocese or religious order might best develop care and support for those ordained who have been abused, please contact your ordinary or Teresa or Luis directly. All calls are confidential.
If you wish to invite and sponsor a Church leader and/or would like to contribute to sponsoring an attendee whose funds are limited, you may donate through a partnership the Joshua Mountain Ministries has established with Spirit Fire, here. Please specify the donation is for the Joshua Ministry – Spirit Fire Clergy Care Fund.
